The Credit Union was officially founded March 30th, 1972 as the Vienna Correctional Center Credit Union. The name was changed in 2008 to the River to River Credit Union. The credit union was organized for employees working at the Vienna Correctional Center to have a place to save and borrow money at lower costs by “pooling” their money into a non-profit co-op. The first share (savings) account was opened on this date with a deposit of $4.75 and the first loan was issued in July of 1972 with a limit set at $200. Thus, from these humble beginnings emerged the Credit Union as we know it today.
Throughout the years, the R2RCU has not only expanded its services from the basic savings and loan program, but has expanded its membership to include more of the Southernmost Illinois area. You can become a member of R2RCU if you live or work in the Illinois counties of Johnson, Pope, Hardin, Saline, Pulaski or Alexander. The field of membership also includes employees or any person affiliated with or working at Vienna Correctional Center, Shawnee Correctional Center, Illinois Youth Center (Harrisburg), Shawnee Development Council INC, Egyptian Health Department, and Southern Seven Health Department.
It is never forgotten that at the R2RCU we are here to serve our members, not wait on customers.
Even though the R2RCU continues to expand, add new member employment groups, new services and add new employees from time to time, we will always build our relationship with our members knowing that each and every one is very important and each and every member is an owner of the credit union. As we progress and continue our mission we will always strive to remain a friendly institution where members belong…The River to River Credit Union is not just their financial institution, it is their home.
